I use a dark stout beer (my preference is a beer called steel reserve) pour in the whole 24 oz. I put the potatoes, carrots and onions in the crock pot with the corned beef, but transfer the juices just to cook the cabbage on the stove so it doesn’t get mushy. Making corned beef in a slow cooker is incredibly easy. I actually sprinkled 1/2 on the corned beef and the other in the beer broth veggies. The best corned beef I ever made was in the crockpot with beer added to it.
