Paleo Schnitzbrot (German Christmas Bread)

Fruit and nuts are traditional ingredients used in this moist, dense German Christmas yeast bread made with prune juice, chopped prunes, raisins, walnuts, and brown sugar. Zimtsterne also make a great old-fashioned Christmas tree decoration. Just poke a hole in one of the points of each star before baking them. A Traditional German Holiday Cookie (Gluten-Free, Paleo).

This is what we’ll be attempting on Christmas morning for our vegan brothers. I have some Grain Free German Apple pancakes in my oven right now, and I am hoping it’ll be the perfect recipe to make on Christmas morning!  .   I’m especially wanting recipes for holiday treats as we’ll have to forego so many of our traditional favorites, this monkey bread will definitely be on our new menu! I have the Paleo cookbook on my wish list, so winning would be delightful. The traditional Buchtel is filled with plum powidl jam. Ginger was not only tasty, it had properties that helped preserve the bread. The traditional sweetener is honey, used by the guild in Nuremberg. Spices used are ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and cardamom. In Germany the Christmas markets still sell decorated gingerbread before Christmas.

A bread which is made entirely from nuts, grains, seeds, eggs and oil. Everybody likes it. On Paleo you can have your cake and eat it too, which is not something that usually comes with a diet program. It does away with the granulated sugar, vegetable oil, pastry flour, powdered sugar, cream cheese, and margarine that comes with traditional carrot cake, and sticks to items that are better for you like applesauce, dates, almond flour and coconut flour. Flourless German Chocolate Cake Taking out the flour is the first step to making a German chocolate cake that you can feel good about eating.
